Future Green 5 Must Reads

Hey sustainability change makers,

Over the past few weeks, I've been having some fascinating conversations about facilitation. One question keeps coming up: what actually makes someone a great facilitator?

It isn't usually another certification, framework or book. It's the confidence that comes from stepping into the room, trying something new, making mistakes, reflecting, and getting a little better each time.

The more I think about it, the more I believe facilitation is the operating system for change. Whether we're helping organisations shape their sustainability strategy, designing workshops that lead to better decisions, or finding practical ways to replace fossil-fuel generators with B50 biodiesel at live events, meaningful progress rarely comes from having the perfect plan. It comes from bringing the right people together, testing ideas, learning quickly and continuously improving.

I hope this week's stories inspire you to keep learning, keep experimenting, and most importantly, keep taking action. Because real change isn't built through perfection - it's built through practice.

πŸŽ™οΈ FACILITATION: WHY PRACTICE BEATS ANOTHER CERTIFICATE

Many facilitators invest in courses and certifications but still lack confidence leading real workshops. Me and Heather Cowap explain why meaningful practice, honest feedback, and real experience transform capable facilitators into confident leaders.

πŸ’· CARBON TAXES: IS YOUR BUSINESS READY?

Carbon taxes are moving closer for food businesses. Understanding where costs could emerge helps organisations strengthen procurement, reduce emissions, manage risk, before regulations arrive.

🌾 RURAL FUTURES: CHINA'S CHANGING COUNTRYSIDE

China's countryside is rapidly transforming. This fascinating podcast explores how changing rural landscapes could reshape food systems, communities, livelihoods, and the future of agriculture.

β˜€οΈ BLUE ENERGY: SOLAR MEETS SALMON FARMING

Floating solar panels are transforming an island in Chile by generating renewable electricity while supporting salmon farming, demonstrating how innovation can strengthen food production and accelerate the clean energy transition.

🌍 CLIMATE RISK: THE NEXT FOOD PRICE SHOCK

Economists warn that a potential Super El NiΓ±o could disrupt global food production, increase inflation, and keep food prices elevated until 2028, reinforcing the urgency of building resilient food systems.

Tip 6: Facilitators Guide - They Don’t Dominate

Facilitation isn't about being the most knowledgeable person in the room, it's about helping the room think better together.

My role is always to guide the process and not provide the answers. I always find this most effective when I remain neutral and guide with questions rather than adding my thoughts to the discussion.

I find this really effective when we're working to align teams around shared priorities and collaborative decision-making.

Join my 5-day Facilitation Practice Retreat in Sintra, Portugal (28 Sep – 2 Oct 2026) to restore your energy and sharpen your craft.

Limited to 30 facilitators only! 🌿
