Future Green 5 Must Reads

Hey sustainability change makers,

I’ve been thinking about the gap between knowing something and being able to turn that knowledge into action. We have access to more information, tools and ideas than ever before, but real change depends on how we communicate that knowledge, make sense of it and use it to make better decisions.

That theme comes through in this week’s stories in some interesting ways. From becoming a more confident sustainability trainer and navigating responsible AI, to exploring the origins of our food, preparing for climate risks and understanding new rules around green claims, they all remind us that context matters.

It’s also why I’m excited to launch our updated Carbon Literacy Train the Trainer Programme, which emphasises innovation and workshopping. It’s designed to help sustainability professionals go beyond simply sharing information and create learning experiences that engage people, build confidence and inspire action.

I hope you enjoy this week’s reads and find something useful to bring into your own work.

Knowing your subject is only half the job. Our updated 4-week Carbon Literacy Train the Trainer programme combines sustainability knowledge with practical facilitation skills to help you deliver engaging training that inspires action. January 2027 cohort now open.

πŸ€– RESPONSIBLE AI: BETTER BUSINESS

AI adoption is accelerating, but who is thinking about its impact on people and planet? B Lab explores why governance, transparency and responsible adoption can help businesses manage risk while building trust.

🌍 FOOD CULTURE: THE ORIGINS OF OUR FOOD

Food has always been on the move. Explore how migration, trade and conflict have shaped what we eat, and why protecting crop diversity matters for our food system’s future.

🌍 CLIMATE RISK: ARE WE PREPARED FOR WHAT’S COMING?

From disrupted harvests to pressure on food supplies, accelerating global heating is reshaping climate risk and raising urgent questions about how well our systems can withstand future shocks.

🏷️ GREEN CLAIMS: NEW RULES ARE COMING

New EU rules demand stronger evidence behind sustainability claims, raising the bar for food and retail businesses and changing how environmental credentials can be communicated to consumers.

Tip 9: Visual Thinking Beats Abstract Talk

Complex conversations become easier when ideas are visible.

At Future Green, we use sticky notes, journey maps and facilitation frameworks to help teams organise ideas, spot patterns and build shared understanding.

In sustainability workshops, making thinking visible helps teams navigate interconnected challenges, align faster and move from discussion to action.

What visual tools help your teams collaborate better?

Join my 5-day Facilitation Practice Retreat in Sintra, Portugal (28 Sep – 2 Oct 2026) to restore your energy and sharpen your craft.

Future Green 5 Must Reads Hey sustainability change makers, Future Green turns seven this September! πŸŽ‰ Reaching this milestone has given me a chance to look back at how much has changed since we started in 2019 not only for Future Green, but across the wider food and sustainability landscape. What strikes me most is how sustainability has become increasingly embedded in the everyday workings of food businesses. It’s showing up in how organisations measure carbon, design menus, source...

Future Green 5 Must Reads Hey sustainability change makers, What does a resilient food system actually look like when the world around it keeps changing? This week’s stories offer a few different answers. It means knowing more about where our food comes from, understanding what’s happening behind the label, and recognising how changing ecosystems can create new opportunities alongside unexpected challenges. It also means building stronger communities where people working across food and...

Future Green 5 Must Reads Hey sustainability change makers, Over the past few weeks, I've been having some fascinating conversations about facilitation. One question keeps coming up: what actually makes someone a great facilitator? It isn't usually another certification, framework or book. It's the confidence that comes from stepping into the room, trying something new, making mistakes, reflecting, and getting a little better each time. The more I think about it, the more I believe...
