FOR FOOD AND DRINKS BUSINESSES
Train the Trainer - Carbon Literacy for Food and Drinks Businesses is a new 4-week programme where I’ll help sustainability professionals become trainers through innovation. Add Capacity Building Trainings to your resume and help teams across business units to take action on sustainability goals!
In this small group program capped at 6 persons, I’ll help you supercharge your sustainability training career!
All of this is possible as a sustainability trainer and facilitator, even if you don’t have much time.
And I can't wait to show you how....
In case we haven’t met, I’m Heidi Yu Spurrell! With over 5,000 hours of experience in teaching and training corporate clients, I focus on helping the food service, manufacturers, and retail sectors shift toward sustainable practices.
My journey into food sustainability began after I had children. I wanted the best diet for them, which led me to explore the challenges of healthy and sustainable eating amidst all the powerful marketing of high-fat and processed foods. This experience inspired me to pursue a career in food policy and strategy, taking an MSc in Food Policy at the Centre for Food Policy at City University London. I continued my love for education by taking a PGDip at UCL in Education Research.
Today I train and support clients in a wide variety of food linked sectors including landlord developers, manufacturers, caterers, schools, banks, and insurance companies to name a few in adopting sustainable diets and procurement strategies. It's been a fun 10 years and I can't wait to show you more! Introducing Train the Trainer...
Introducing Train the Trainer - Carbon Literacy for the Food and Drinks Sector. In this new 4-week programme I’ll help sustainability professionals become trainers through innovation so you can add Capacity Building to your resume and help teams across business units take action on sustainability goals.
I have found that transforming food systems through innovation workshops is a game changer for the foodservice industry.
This isn’t your typical boring training programme that focusses on dumping facts on you – we harness the latest Design Sprint Methods to spark engagement that helps make learning content stick, and bring your student's sustainability pledges to life. The feedback? It speaks volumes!
I have helped 100s of students become more confident on the topic of food and climate so they can help their businesses get clarity on designing and implementing their food strategy.
Understanding sustainable food systems doesn’t have to be bogged down with heavy jargon or complex concepts. Instead, we simplify and clarify, making carbon literacy accessible and engaging for everyone. Don't believe me? See our testimonial below. Our goal is to create content that resonates, not overwhelms.

The result...
I’ll make it easy for you to become a certified trainer. Together, we’ll focus on doing, not just learning. You will be able to lead capacity building trainings so that your company can scale sustainability knowledge throughout your organisation.
Here's what's included in your student experience...
1. 👩💻Complete lesson plans: Each trainer receives ready-made, structured lesson plans for each module. These include step-by-step instructions for delivering content, facilitating discussions, and managing activities. Trainers can easily follow these plans to ensure a smooth, effective delivery without having to build their own sessions from scratch.
2. 📄 Comprehensive Course Outline: The course comes with a detailed outline that covers key topics, learning objectives, and timelines. This helps trainers design their programme in a structured way, so you stay on track and ensure you cover all the essential content while leaving room for interaction and discussion. Here is a sneak peak into a typical content training flow...
3. 📂 Resource Pack for Participants: We will share with you our resource space so that you can easily share with your future participants. This pack includes key readings, cheat sheets, reflection exercises, and action plans, ensuring learners have everything they need to succeed even after the training is over. This is updated on a regular basis.
4. 👩🏫 Access to Monthly Trainer Clinics : Trainers benefit from monthly clinics, where they can troubleshoot challenges, share insights, and refine their delivery methods. These sessions will help trainers feel supported as they perfect their facilitation skills, allowing them to consistently deliver high-impact training. The monthly trainer clinics will be held on the second Tuesday of the month from February - April. The specific dates (optional to join) for this are: 11th February 2025, 11th March 2025, and 15th April 2025.
5. 🎖️Train-the-Trainer Certification: Trainers not only get the skills to deliver the course but will also be certified as official Carbon Literacy Trainers once they have their course approved by CLP HQ in Manchester UK, and run 5 co-facilitation sessions. This adds credibility and gives you the confidence to lead high-quality training sessions independently.
6. 📊 Get and Set Expectations - Survey
Right when you join, you’ll go through an onboarding process so I can learn more about your starting point, your goals, and any other info that will help me personalise your experience. This is also a chance for you to reflect on your own goals for the program.
7. ☎️ Kickoff Call - Onboarding & Goal Setting
On the 6th of January, we’ll have an informal Orientation Call to get to know your peers in this Founding Cohort. (It will be recorded, so no worries if you can’t join live). It’s casual!
8. 🏋️♀️ Weekly Live Group Training Calls
We'll meet once a week every Tuesday at 9am - 11:30am UKT / 5pm-7:30pm HKT (until 12:30pm UKT on day 4) for live group training sessions. There will be prompts in the curriculum to submit specific assignments for feedback.
9. 🔖 Community and Instructor Feedback
Our student community space is available for you to start discussions, celebrate wins, and share feedback with each other. If you can't come to a live call, or if you need support in between calls, we'll have a dedicated Feedback space in our online community where you can post any questions or work for review.
So if you want me to personally look at your progress, or address any questions you may have, you'll be able to post there as often as you'd like. I'll personally reply to everyone with comments and/or a short video reply, and I love when students jump in and support each other too.
With these benefits, I'm equipping trainers with everything you need to start strong and end stronger, and lead successful Carbon Literacy workshops from day one!
Since this course is new, I wanted to include a few extra bonuses to show my commitment to helping students get real results:
At any point during the next 3 months, you can book a 1:1 call with me (1 hour) to clarify any content material from the course. I’ll record the call over Zoom if you’d like to keep a copy for your personal use.
My top resources to draw students towards you so you don't have to hard sell your course.
Do I need any qualification before joining the course?
You must have taken the CLP (with us or other provider) or our CPD Food Sustainability course before joining the trainer programme. See the eligibility criteria above for further detail.
You can email me anytime at [email protected] for an invoice if your business is paying for this programme.

How long do I keep access to the course recordings?
You have lifetime access to the course recordings, materials (such as worksheets, planning documents, etc.) and other resources!
When are the live weekly group coaching calls? Tuesdays weekly
The live weekly group coaching calls will be on Tuesday every week. Each call is 2.5 hours long (the final day is 3.5 hours long for practicals) on Zoom or other software.
How can I get in touch if I still have questions?

How is this different from other similar courses?
